Parisian runways are no longer the most exclusive venues for previewing the latest fashion trends for women. Thanks to social media, all the hottest looks are available at your fingertips. In this case, on the popular microblogging site Tumblr.
From Giambattista Valli to Kate Spade, from McQ (one of the late, great Alexander McQueen’s brands) to Juicy Couture and Anthropologie, Tumblr is becoming a new platform for these icons from the world of fashion. Not to mention all of these other glamorous Tumblr fashion accounts: Nicola Formichetti, Dolce & Gabbana, Nina Garcia, or Terry Richardson. The biggest of the fashionable lions, tigers, and bears… oh my! Here are some Fall 2012 fashion trends for women that I have noticed on Tumblr.
Tumblr Fall 2012 Fashion Trends for Women – Clothing
Forget the cliché of a deep gem-toned Autumn. This Fall, the trend seems to be swaths of washed out colors. This is carrying over from the summer, but taking on a warmer color palate. Expect cooler beiges and corals, and lots of luxe cream. For those who avoid lighter colors, the always sharp combination of grey and black will reign. The big thing (for both dark and light palates) seems to be texture: cable knits, leather, suede, etc.
Tumblr Fall 2012 Fashion Trends for Women – Accessories
Accessories are getting bigger. This fall, expect to see statement pieces rather than cute trinkets. The trend in accessories is still predominately leaning towards metallics: shiny, alien-like necklaces are the big “it” item. For wrists, layer, layer, layer! There’s no such thing as too many bracelets. Also, the chunky watch and cuff trend carries over from this summer- ideally with a three quarter sleeve.
Tumblr Fall 2012 Fashion Trends for Women – Hairstyle
One word: Ombre. This trend is everywhere! Ombre is basically a method where your hair is dyed to look like it’s getting progressively lighter. It’s a waterfall from dark roots to light ends. For those who like their hair a bit edgier, the new darling seems to be royal purple (a la Katy Perry).
For those who take fashion seriously, Tumblr is a new haven. It is sublimely simple to be lost for hours simply browsing, yet it is not mindless. There is creativity, and so much inspired style. Tumblr fashion presents a new wave in fashion; one that is interactive, edgy, and definitely catered to young urban professionals.
